How We Impact the Community
We believe that young scientist interns can help solve some of healthcare’s biggest challenges when given meaningful opportunities, mentorship, and support. We address gaps in access to hands-on STEM education by connecting students with real-world research in neuroscience, artificial intelligence, and biomedical engineering.
Since 2017, we have provided internships and research opportunities to more than 50 high school and college students, primarily from the Napa Valley. Students work alongside our scientists, physicians, engineers, and business professionals, gaining experience in research, innovation, leadership, teamwork, and public presentation. More than 95% of our interns have continued to college, many pursuing careers in science, medicine, engineering, and healthcare. Several former interns remain involved with our projects as mentors and volunteers, helping guide the next generation of student scientists.
Our research programs focus on improving healthcare access for underserved communities. Students contribute to projects such as the Virtual Neurologist, an AI-powered diagnostic system designed to expand access to neurological expertise, and the Coma Buster, a technology to support recovery after severe brain injury. We also provide scholarships to outstanding interns pursuing higher education.
Community support helps us expand internship opportunities, provide educational resources, fund student-led research, and ensure that financial barriers never prevent talented students from participating.
