How We Impact the Community
We provide hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) learning to inspire the next generation of innovators and leaders. Every year, the student-led team designs, builds, and programs a robot in six to eight weeks to compete in FIRST Robotics Competitions. Students gain hands-on skills in CAD, programming, machining and fabrication, building, engineering, science, business planning, and community engagement. They build problem-solving skills and resilience as part of a collaborative team. We conduct community outreach to promote STEM and recruit new members, reaching an average of 300 youth a year.
Career discovery is built in. Students collaborate with STEM professionals and mentors, take on roles that mirror careers in engineering, business, and communications, and learn from alumni and professionals about the many directions STEM can lead. We use the FIRST program to provide students with the necessary skills to become the next leaders in our community.
Our team is supported by volunteers and fundraising from donors and sponsorships. We are committed to fostering and cultivating a team culture that provides ALL young people with the opportunity to become science and technology leaders who have the skills, confidence, and resilience to give back to the community and build a better world.
Testimonial
Joining the OtterBots not only gave me hands-on experience with technical and soft skills, it also gave me the confidence to use those skills. Before joining, I wasn’t comfortable sharing my ideas in front of others, but now, I can confidently present and collaborate with teammates, a necessary lifelong skill.
